Sipping a cup of hot chocolate. I can feel the winter breeze. There will be some falling of snow soon…

I was the Sunday school teacher today. Funny story, I had been praying this whole week  for a story to teach and couldn’t think of one. I always ask the LORD for His Spirit to give me wisdom. He gave an answer 45 minutes before the Sunday school class started. He works that way and I’ve learned to trust His perfect timing. The kids are knowledgable of the story of Jesus birth. They know that an angel named Gabriel appeared to Joseph; and the wisemen that came from afar. The angel they know did not only appear to Joseph but also to a priest named Zacharias. Honestly, I had forgotten this miraculous story of Zacharias and Elizabeth. Gabriel gave Zacharias an amazing news. He and his wife would have a child. They called him John. He is Jesus cousin and the one who baptized him.

So, here’s volume 8. Currently…

READING: a tutorial on hellobrio.com’s blog. Thank God for the people who do tutorials. They are very helpful.

WRITING: and editing a post about long distance relationship. I hope to publish it soon.

LISTENING: to Christmas songs.

THINKING: of taking my handlettering seriously and maybe having a future business doing it.

WISHING: to get tickets to see the Rockets at Radio City Hall. My wedding anniversary gift for my parents.

WEARING: shirt and pjs.

LOVING: the Sunday school with the kids this morning. We danced to Christmas songs. And I had them guess my age. One said 17 and another girl said 33. Hahahaha!

WANTING: to buy a new MacBook Pro before the Spring semester. (need)

FEELING: excited. I’m learning new things from the tutorials I watch on YouTube. I thought I was good at Illustrator but nah. I can be better. I can be an expert.

CLICKING: through some channels.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Advent starts today. 🙂

Shall We Gather

image

I thought I had published this post. It was written last Sunday when I got home from church. I felt the Spirit spoke to me during the service and couldn’t wait to share what I experienced at church through painting. This was somewhat a break from my usual The Sunday Currently series but I didn’t even get to post it.

I was sitting on the pew while the band was singing the first worship song when I began thanking the LORD for giving me the freedom to attend a church. I also thanked Him for bringing me to church that day and the previous Sundays; and for having a church to go to. Before I entered the sanctuary I had already thanked Him for my churchmates. I looked around and smiled as I see these people serving the church and serving the community. My heart is grateful to work with them for God’s Kingdom. Sunday is a precious time for me. Children of God gathering to lift up His Holy name.

“Don’t let pride take a hold of you. It festers the soul. Pray. Ask God to help you love like Him. Care like Him. Forgive like Him. Be like Him. Pray that. Nowadays, people post what they want others to do. They become selfish and forget to pray for themselves. Pray for others but pray for yourself that you become more like Christ.”

Just as we were leaving for church, my wallet was nowhere to be found. You know, that little thing where you place your license and credit cards. You can’t drive without your license. I know I put it in the pocket of my jacket. My mood was calm as I searched for my wallet. My mom on the other hand was panicking. Haha! I was in charge of leading kids worship and my mom was scheduled to do the church attendance list but we didn’t make it to church. I told her it’s either God didn’t want us to leave because He was protecting us from something or I dropped it somewhere without noticing. I went for the latter since I know myself as a little clumsy. My mom and I both checked my jacket. Not once but twice.so a total of four times. Searched the whole house and inspected the inside of my car. A few hours passed, I finally found it. IT WAS INSIDE MY JACKET. Yes yes the same jacket. That jacket do have a lot of pockets, though. But but we checked. I still don’t know why we didn’t see it but I’m gonna go for the reason that God meant us to stay in the house. Thank you, LORD.

So, here’s my 7th TSC. Currently...

READING: “The Meaning of Marriage” by Tim Keller. I’ve read it before but I needed Tim’s insight again. It has a rich message basing on the Bible. I recommend it to the married ones, single, dating, engaged, to be engaged..

WRITING: letters alphabets. I’m practicing calligraphy using watercolor brush pens.

LISTENING: to “Rude” by Magic. Let me say that my father isn’t a rude person. Haha

THINKING: of emailing Press Bible and She Reads Truth. I want to know if I can send some of my devotions and photos I have taken.

SMELLING: my perfume Eclat by Lanvin.

WISHING: for myself to be more prayerful and be attentive and sensitive to the things happening around the world.

HOPING: for love to be felt especially in the most painful, difficult times. My heart breaks. the chaos and how lost people are. They need Jesus. My purpose is to express love and let them know who Love is.

WEARING: a tank top and shorts. It feels like a sauna in my room. The heater is centralized (the whole condominium.) Settings: 70. No way of changing it. Windows ajar.

LOVING: the Filipino snacks I bought.

WANTING: Glenn to be alive. The Walking Dead starts in 5…4…3…2…1

NEEDING: a massage. Muscles are so tense. Sleep. Been sleeping at 3 in the morning. Waking at 6am.

FEELING: bothered. Sad. My heart goes out for the relatives of the victims from the suicide bombings.

CLICKING: the remote. AMC the Walking Dead.

A Thousand Miles (NYC pt. 3)

image

A week ago I received the tightest hug. A week ago I said goodbye to the one who gave me that embrace.

Earlier that day we met at the usual meeting place. We went for coffee and  I took him to the famous bakery on the Upper West Side. The place is known for having long lines but waiting is worth it. Luckily, that day we went, there was no line to avoid. I saw the cookies sitting behind the glass and got excited. I bought two of each of the famous four flavors. We shared one cookie and the rest I told him to be bring to his family.  LOOK AT THOSE DELICIOUSNESS!!! AND THE PRICE…

Levain Bakery

We strolled around the neighborhood while devouring the delicious cookie. We passed Yoko Ono’s co-op. Across from her place was Central Park. Two weeks ago when we were there the trees were mostly green and only a few shades of red and orange were visible. We were happy to have gone back. It’s so colorful. People dream of wandering around this famous park with their partner – fingers interlocked, her head on his shoulder, laughing, and forgetting the rest of the world. I, on the other hand, dream to walk with dogs. Hey a dogsitter gets paid a lot in Manhattan. Haha! I’m kidding. But I fulfilled this “people’s wish” obliviously. I actually walked the park with someone beneath the colorful trees with his arms around me…during my favorite season…in my favorite city…

We quickly grabbed lunch at Ippudo because I had to leave for work soon. Their ramen never disappoints. If you happen to be in New York City and a ramen lover, try this place out. Oh, don’t forget to order the pork hirata buns. 🙂image

thank you, Francis, for the photos 🙂

And our last day together had finally come to an end, it was time for me to board the train. The hug a year ago was different this time around. It was difficult to let go compared to last year’s. But we managed. We will manage. We managed for a year & a half and we’re ready to do the same until that big day. The Lord is on our side. He goes before us. We both don’t know what’s ahead but we know that we’ll trust the One who orchestrates everything. And He’s pretty good at it.

We are back to split screen romance again. I’d be using Messenger and Skype more often. I’d be checking the time zone every now and then. 6, 865 miles apart.

see you next year

My headache won’t go away. I don’t usually take any pain reliever but this time I just had to. The pain is finally subsiding. I know this feeling, this kind of headache comes around when I’m about to get that monthly visitor. It’s already the 2nd Sunday of November. Wow!

READING
the Sunday currently entries linked up on siddhatorton’s website.

WRITING
a short devotional essay.

LISTENING
to Sarah Geronimo’s voice as I am currently watching Maybe This Time.

THINKING
of starting a weekly devotional entry. I thought of doing it every Sunday morning. Maybe I’ll start it off as once a week and when I get a hang out of it I’ll do it more often. From the Book

SMELLING
the ointment I lathered on my back and neck. Sore muscles.

WISHING
I had the urge to get coffee from dunkin donuts because I haven’t had coffee all day, but I am too lazy to get out of bed.

HOPING
to have a better prayer life.

WEARING
pj’s.

LOVING
Pinto Art Museum as a wedding venue. I’ve been looking at the pictures I took when I went there last year. Maybe I’ll have a destination wedding? Hehe.

Pinto Art Museum (Antipolo)

WANTING
a cup of hot coffee

NEEDING
to drink that hot coffee I’ve been wanting.

FEELING
irritable. Yah, that visitor is definitely coming. Earlier, when I woke up, I had this feeling of fear. I immediately take that thought to the Lord. Nothing fears me but flying but all these awful thoughts came rushing into my mind. I’m glad that through prayer and God’s Word we are comforted.

The weekend is almost over. It’s Monday in the Philippines and it’s my high school best friend’s birthday. Happy 28th birthday, Kathy. I love you! #15yearsoffriendship

The Big Apple: NYC pt. 2

Adora had left for California and Kelvin had gone back to Abu Dhabi. Ralph and Francis’ flight was 5 days later. They came to visit my town last weekend and I’m happy they did. The travel was a good two hours (from NJ to Long Island). My mom was home when they arrived. They met my father when we picked him up after work.

Ralph

Their visit landed on Halloween so I toured them around the neighborhood. They enjoyed watching the kids and adults dressed up for trick or treating. It’s not a common thing to do in UAE so it was an experience for them. A family friend of mine invited us for dinner that night. Ah, I’m so speechless by their love. BIG THANKS: Tita Terry, Pastor John and kids, Lorena and Monix, and Lola.

Ralph and Francis stayed for the night and attended our church service in the morning. We had to leave for the city right away after having lunch with my parents – as it was his cousin’s birthday. We went food tripping in the city. Not to forget, Lorenz’s parents had prepared him a dinner celebration that night. So, lots of food intake that day!

I saw my best friends at the dinner party. Jaytee is married to Lorenz (the birthday boy and Ralph’s cousin/best friend.) Blessing is our other best friend (girl in the middle). Bless is also married. Jaytee is the one who recently had a baby boy. I’ve been friends with them since 2005. We met in college. There’s actually two more girls in our core group – Jon Quinn and Johanna. I get emotional everytime i think of God’s goodness in our friendship. From that first handshake to witnessing them saying vows and now holding Jay’s first child. He is soooo adorable.

image

It was funny how Lorenz was opening the gifts thinking they were for him…only to find out that they were mostly for Chase. Hahaha!

The Big Apple: NYC

image

It’s a crisp fall morning, I’m drinking my lukewarm coffee that I had reheated 3 times. Hot, cold, or lukewarm I’ll drink it. I’m finishing this blog entry.

This post is about the time I became a personal tour guide. Haha! …of my friends from Abu Dhabi, UAE. I already referred to them as “my friends” even though it was only our first meeting. They are my boyfriend’s friends. Let me digress for a second, when I first became a tourist of my own city, the first time I wandered around the Concrete Jungle, I instantly wanted to become a tour guide. You know, that person on a double decker bus with a mic. The bus that goes around the Big Apple. It’s still a dream of mine. I’d do it even just for a day. 🙂

First stop, the ever so lively Times Square. Loud and bright as always.

imageI made them walk 8 blocks from Penn Station to see the place where thousands of people gather on New Year’s eve to witness the ball drop.

LOVE sign on 56th Street

image

I’m actually grinning because they dont know that I purposely didn’t let us hop on any Subways (sorry, guys, but now you know. Haha). The plan was to show them Midtown Manhattan and make our way to the Upper East/West side and stroll the famous park placed in the middle of a city.

Central Park

Bethesda

image

imageI prefer this Observation Deck of NBC. It gives a better view of the skyline than the Empire State’s observatory. At least being on the Top of the Rock can give you the Empire State Building as a background.

imageAfter having dinner at Bonchon, we grabbed some desserts from Wafels and Dinges. One of my favorite desserts. My visitors gave it a thumbs up.

image

I’m about to run out of words. I’ll probably just post photos with a caption. Haha! I was supposed to go to Niagara Falls with them but I couldn’t since I go to school. It would have been my first time too. They went over the weekend and I didn’t see them until the following week. On our next meet up we were joined by another member of their little group. A day with a never ending pouring of rain. I told them to meet me at Bowling Green since they were around Battery Park from seeing Lady Liberty.

image
image
image
imageI was dressed appropriately for the weather but they weren’t. We found a Starbucks nearby and waited for the rain to stop. We had coffee while waiting for their clothes and shoes to dry.

We were thankful that the following day was dryer and warmer. Took a trip to the Brooklyn Bridge.

image
imageNext stop, SoHo.

imageimage

I promised Kelvin that I will take him to the Highline. It was his and Adora’s last night in New York. After shopping at Uniqlo in SoHo, we took the subway to see the old train tracks that turned into a park. I was hesitant to do the trip at first because we had been walking the whole day but they said to make the most out of it. I hope we also saw the Highline during the day.

imageHow do you end a wonderful NY trip?

Hello!

image

From me. Not from Adele. Not from Lionel. Haha!

I owe you guys (I’m saying “guys” like I have 100+ followers. Hahaha!) an update. I’m not quite sure if I mentioned that I was going on a vacation (well,it’s staycation.) I didn’t leave New York. We were in NewYork city most of the time but I did take a short trip to NJ. It was quite nice to not go to work but at the same time I missed being told what to do and the craziness of my coworkers. But I needed to be away because it got a little stressful. We all need a few days to relax.

I don’t even know where I should begin with the stories I want to share. I did post photos on Instagram of my whereabouts so if you’re already following me, you know. If not, feel free to add me: yssha.

My time is running out. I still have to get ready for work so I won’t be able to write about my vacation. I’ll do a Flashback Friday tomorrow. 🙂 Be excited! Hehe!

Happy Thursday!
